Climate activist glued to door of Lastminute.com - 7th June 2007

An environmental activist was so enraged that lastminute.com continue to push ‘short haul’ flights whilst knowing the damage they do to the climate, that she super-glued herself to the front door of the company’s Victoria HQ.

At 8am this morning, Penny Eastwood – a member of climate action group, Plane Stupid, pasted superglue over her hands and glued herself to the front doors of the building - blocking staff from entering their offices.

Angry Heathrow residents disrupt Minister's speech - 6th March 2007

Londoners facing house demolitions and increased noise from government plans for expansion of Heathrow today took direct action against the plans for the first time.

They stormed the stage at an aviation industry conference and disrupted an address being made by the Transport Minister, Douglas Alexander.

Climate activists shut down easyJet HQ - 6th November 2006

Environmental activists opposed to the climate wrecking effects of short haul flights have this morning shut down the HQ of Easyjet in London.

Activists from green direct action group, Plane Stupid, took action on Britain’s first national day of action against short haul flights today which coincides with the start of the UN Climate talks in Nairobi.

Sermon on the runway - 24th September 2006

Environmental protestors (1) have this morning breached security at Nottingham East Midlands Airport and established a second camp for climate action - this time on an airport taxiway.

Their aim is to stop carbon emissions from what they are describing as a “climate change factory”. (2) A Baptist Minister whose former parish is in Nottingham is leading a remembrance service on the taxiway, in memory of the victims of climate change, reminding his congregation of the Bishop of London’s comments that “Flying is a symptom of sin”. (3)

Green campaigners opposed to the unsustainable growth in air travel will tomorrow publish another newspaper advertisement attacking the attitude of Michael O’Leary and Ryanair towards climate change.

Radical green activists welcome Parliamentary report - 6th August 2006

Activists from Britain’s first direct action group against aviation expansion, Plane Stupid, welcomed the findings of the Environmental Audit Committee’s (EAC) report, “Reducing Carbon Emissions from Transport” which is published today and which acknowledges the “undesirability and ultimately impossibility of ongoing increases in flights within a declining carbon budget.”

The EAC calls for a timetable for a range of measures to manage the demand in air travel.
