Climate activists: Third runway "consultation" is dangerous farce - 22nd November 2007

Climate action group, Plane Stupid, today condemned the opening of a 'consultation' on the third runway at Heathrow as a farce, pointing out that a new MORI poll shows that 70 per cent of the UK population have already said no to airport expansion.

Activist for Plane Stupid, Leila Deen, said:

"This process would be funny if it wasn't so dangerous. It's like consulting a curable patient on which sickness they want to die from. This so-called 'consultation' fails to extend even to many of those living near the airport let alone the millions around the world set to die from catastrophic climate change. Who is consulting them?"

She added:

"You cannot expand airports and stop climate change. The science shows its just not possible. If the government condones the building of a third runway, Britain will have no chance of reducing emissions in line with Gordon Brown's targets. Lucky for him there is a whole direct action movement mobilising against this awful mistake to stop airport expansion at Heathrow and across the country."
